Ingestion
Media Factory DAMVideo 8’s Media Factory comprises a Front Porch DIVArchive on Isilon Servers and Sun LTO tape drives, with ingestion, transcoding and playout performed on Anystream Agility, Telestream, Xena, Kona, Blackmagic and Seachange ports.
Media Pilot is our user-customisable web interface.
Our DAM system is capable of ingesting both Standard Definition and High Definition material, in a wide variety of file types and bit rates. In most cases 30Mb/s to 50Mb/s MFX files are appropriate, but we are also ingest material to uncompressed files for clients who want to ensure the highest and most robust quality for preservation. Source material can be on tape, film or disk (see a complete listing under Video Tape Formats).
The Media Factory is ideal for media libraries where easy access to material is required, as well being an invaluable tool in the production process, as camera footage can be stored on the DAM during production, providing a web-based rushes service where material can be easily shared and viewed amongst stakeholders.

Storage
Video 8 Media provides services for storing media in both electronic and physical forms. We have an air- conditioned tape library for storing clients’ masters – usually material which is being actively duplicated or is awaiting ingestion into the Media Factory DAM.
Program material which is ingested into the DAM is stored on LTO data tapes, and back-up copies of these tapes are stored off-site for redundancy.

Archiving
Digital Asset Management
High resolution files which have been ingested into the DIVArchive are copied to low resolution *.wmv proxies, which are timecoded and frame-accurate copies of their high-res parents. These low-res proxies may be viewed via the Media Pilot web interface on any computer connected to the internet.
The Media Pilot is effectively the front-end of an SQL database that also allows the viewer to add and edit metadata across any number of fields, log the clips and create EDLs and sub-clips which can be stored in virtual bins. Each login is password protected, and the administrator can assign various privileges to different users. The Media Pilot and its low-res content are hosted at Video 8 Media.
The Media Pilot interface is accessible over the Internet through a secure login and password. Once a user has logged in, they may perform functions such as:
