Videotape Formats

Video 8 Media has a comprehensive range of video equipment in both 50 Hz and 60 Hz formats. These facilities allow Video 8 to satisfy any state-of-the-art tape transfer and encoding needs, as well as handle any material an archive holds in terms of obsolete, legacy or current formats. We can copy between , encode files from or playout to any format.

Video Conversions

Video 8 Media has a longstanding reputation as being the choice for standards conversion, aspect ratio conversions and frame rate conversions. We were the first independent facility in Australia to commission the Snell & Wilcox Alchemist Platinum for PAL-to-NTSC conversion work. For High Definition work, we run the Teranex Image Convert as well as various software applications for frame rate conversions, 2-3 pulldown sequences. Handling audio during these conversions is no problem, and we have Dolby E decoding and encoding gear to ensure that Dolby E audio data is preserved during frame rate and standards conversions.

Editing

Video 8 Media has Final Cut Pro 7 (Mac) and Edius (PC) editing suites which are suitable for any scale production.
The suites run applications such as Adobe Premiere Creative Suite for graphics and effects. These editing workstations are also available with our telecine suite, so you can go directly from film to file and cut a compile at the same time.
All of the Macintoshes are networked via a fibre channel SAN, so it’s quick and easy to move material around, for instance to another machine for rendering, transcoding or graphics work, or to play out to tape.

Restoration

Video 8 Media has a range of tools which may be used to revitalise damaged or deteriorating media.
Digital Vision Noise Reduction (DVNR) systems are employed in both telecine suites and these may be routed for use with any standard definition video format. They are ideal for single-pass applications to reduce noise and grain across material which is consistently defective.
Snell & Wilcox Archangel is a highly sophisticated real-time device which performs a variety of restoration tasks:

Audio Services

Given the increasing number of audio channels on the newer videotape formats, Video 8 Media has developed expertise in handling diverse audio requirements in a duplication and encoding environment. We are experts in audio layback, remapping channels, copying Dolby E data during frame rate conversions and standards conversions, encoding and decoding Dolby data and embedding and de-embedding audio.
